Two different systems
Great Britain’s electricity network is split between fourteen licence areas, each run by its own distribution network operator. Northern Ireland was never part of that system. Its network is run by NIE Networks, on its own.
G98 and G98/NI
The engineering rule that lets a Great Britain household connect a plug-in solar device is called G98. It applies to Great Britain only. Northern Ireland has its own equivalent, G98/NI, set separately.
The product specification’s own footnote says: applying the specification to Northern Ireland is “subject to further consideration and may require amendment.” That’s the join that hasn’t been made yet, and it’s NIE Networks’s standard and DESNZ’s specification that would need to meet in the middle.
No notification form yet
Great Britain’s network operators are being given a short online form: your name, email and installation address, within 28 days of fitting. It’s built for the fourteen GB licence areas.
We haven’t found anything published by NIE Networks that does the same job here. There is no notification form to fill in yet, and we won’t point you at one that isn’t built for this network.
